Tomorrow, December 19,
2016 will finally end the most contentious presidential election in recent
history. Following the election of Donald Trump on November 8, 538 official
electors representing their individual states will meet at their respective
capitals and cast their votes for the 45th President of the United
States. This group, known as the Electoral College, will have the final say as
to who actually is the legitimate president.
Critics of this system
say that the majority of voters should be the standard as to who wins the White
House. They say that since Hillary Clinton won some 3,000,000 votes over Trump
she should be declared the winner of the campaign. But on closer look the
majority would represent only power cities as in California, New York, and
Chicago as well as a few smaller localities that harbor far-left wing liberals
who insist that the rest of the country submit to their own particular ideas
and devices.
If the Electoral College
should be abolished then the majority of the 50 states would have absolutely no
say as to is elected as President.
The way the system is set
up by our forefathers, every vote does count but to offset the power of
concentrated areas as Hollywood, Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, Chicago and
other such metropolitan principalities the system of electors was instituted.
The benefit is that small or less populated states would have an equal say as to
who their President should be.
That is why Trump campaigned
so heavily in states as West Virginia, Arizona, Utah, Wisconsin and Michigan.
The reason he did not put a lot of effort in California was because he knew
that the state would never support him and all of its 55 electors would cast
their votes for Hillary Clinton. As it turned out the final electoral vote was
306 for Trump and 232 for Clinton. The democrats were beaten at their own game!
So on Monday electors are
supposed to cast their ballots for whoever won their state. That means Trump,
who won 30 states, and Clinton, who won 19 states should benefit only by the
obligation and desire of their individual state voters. But there is an anomaly
to what should be the voter’s preference—many states have no formal obligation
for an elector to cast their vote in line with the people’s choice. They can in
fact, vote for anyone they want including Hillary Clinton. And this is exactly
what the Democrats are counting on!
Going back to the
Presidential debates between Trump and Clinton, he was asked if he would
support the vote of the people. His response was that, if there was a question
as to the illegitimate tally of votes he might not if he lost. Clinton jumped
on him and fumed how awful it would be not to accept the outcome of the
campaign. The thing she didn’t count on was Trump’s capturing one of the
largest numbers of electoral votes in anyone’s memory even though she won the
majority of votes thanks to the liberal big cities!
So now what has happened?
All sorts of challenges have been tossed around by Clinton supporters hoping to
throw a monkey wrench into the final Electoral College vote. Members of the
College have been bombarded with pleas from the liberal left begging that they
not vote their state’s preference. Big time Hollywood celebrities as Martin
Sheen, Whoopi Goldberg, Mike Farrell and other breast beating liberals who make
up the majority of alleged actors, have promoted television ads asking the
American people to contact their state electors and tell them not to cast their
vote for Trump.
Clinton herself has jumped
on this bandwagon along with her close campaign adviser John Podesta. It was
his and other hacked Democratic emails that were released for public
consumption that showed exactly how ruthless, deceiving and lying all of them
were willing to go in order to get Hillary elected. The emails showed how they
buried Bernie Sanders and drummed up all sorts of false accusations against
Trump.
The funny thing about the
“hacked” emails is that nobody has ever challenged the truthful information
they contained!
Only one GOP Electoral
College representative publically said he would not cast his vote for Trump. Chris
Suprum, a Texas firefighter, said he might cast his vote for Clinton. One thing
for sure he won’t be voting for Trump. Apparently he forgot that Trump carried
Texas fairly easily. However Suprum believes he has no responsibility to the
people who chose him as an elector. He may want to keep his day job.
In
order for the Electoral College to choose another person over Trump would
require 37 electors switching their votes. However, even if some were to do so
there is no guarantee that they would vote for Hillary. But if there was a tie
then the final determination would be left to the United States Congress. Since
the majority of congressmen are Republicans Trump would be home free.
But
the smoke screen continues. The Russians are now accused of tampering with the
election but regardless of the alleged interference it would have no bearing on
the voting process. No one has disputed the count except Jill Stein, a virtual unknown
until she filed as a Presidential candidate, who managed to get some big-time
spenders as George Soros, to put up millions of dollars for a recount in Wisconsin,
Michigan and Pennsylvania. The count in Wisconsin got underway and found that a
recount showed Trump increasing his lead! So much for the recount. Both
Michigan and Pennsylvania have now dismissed any further action.
But
even if it proved correct that Russia had a role in interfering in the election
it only proved that the democratic process of our system can and does counter
such an attempt.
By
Monday evening all the newscasters will swallow their disappointment and
announce that Donald Trump is officially the 45th President of the
United States.
Only
one thing is lacking: all those “celebrities” who have whined about the result
of Trump’s victory and vowed to leave for Canada have so far not bought an
airline ticket. Is anyone interested in contributing to their air fare?
